Need More Resources Before You Decide?
2. Do parents need to know how to code?
No. Homeschool Coding Academy is designed so students can work independently through structured lessons, videos, quizzes, coding exercises, and automatically graded assignments. Parents do not need to teach the material, write lesson plans, or grade coding assignments.
3. What course should my student start with?
Most students begin with Computer Science 1 using Python. Python is a great first programming language because it is beginner-friendly, widely used, and helps students learn foundational coding concepts before moving into languages like Java, JavaScript, or more advanced computer science topics.
4. Is this a full high school course?
Yes. The Python 1 course is designed as a high school-level computer science elective. Students complete lessons, quizzes, coding assignments, tests, and a final grade that parents may use for homeschool transcript records.
5. Can this count as high school credit?
Many homeschool families may choose to count the course as a high school elective credit. Homeschool Coding Academy provides completion and grade information, but parents are responsible for deciding how the course fits into their homeschool plan, transcript, state requirements, umbrella school, co-op, or private school guidelines.
6. How much parent involvement is required?
Parent involvement can be minimal. Students are expected to follow the lessons independently, while parents can check progress, grades, assignments, and completion status. Parents should still help students manage pacing, stay accountable, and make final homeschool credit decisions.
7. Is the course self-paced?
Yes. Students can work through the course on a flexible schedule. This makes it easier to fit coding around homeschool routines, sports, speech and debate, travel, family schedules, illness, holidays, and other commitments.
8. Are assignments graded automatically?
Yes. Quizzes, tests, and many coding assignments are graded automatically so students receive immediate feedback. This helps students see what they did correctly, what needs to be fixed, and how they are progressing through the course.
9. What will my student actually learn?
Students learn real programming concepts through Python, including foundational coding skills, logic, problem-solving, syntax, variables, conditionals, loops, functions, and other introductory computer science concepts. The goal is to help students build confidence and determine whether they want to continue into more advanced coding or technology courses.
10. Is this course good for beginners?
Yes. The first course is designed for students who are new to coding or still building confidence. Lessons are structured step by step so students can watch, practice, receive feedback, and keep progressing.
11. What technology does my student need?
Students should use a Windows or Mac laptop or desktop computer with reliable internet access and a modern web browser. A phone, tablet, older computer, or restricted school device may not provide the best experience for coding assignments.
12. Can siblings share one account?
No. Each student needs a separate account because assignments, quizzes, tests, coding submissions, grades, and completion records are tracked individually. Families with multiple students may qualify for additional-student savings.
13. Do you offer a sibling or family discount?
Yes. Families can save 20% for each additional student. This makes the course more affordable for families with multiple students learning coding during the same school year.
14. What happens after the free trial?
The free trial does not require a credit card and does not automatically turn into a paid plan. After the trial, parents can decide whether the course is a good fit and then choose a paid enrollment option if they want to continue.
15. Is tutoring or extra help available?
Yes. Optional tutoring is available from previous graduates and college students majoring in computer science or technology. Tutoring can be scheduled individually or in small groups when additional help is needed.
16. Are there automatic renewals?
No. Course enrollment does not automatically renew for the next school year. Families who want to continue with another course or future school-year option can choose to enroll again separately.
